Each person and or company strives to be environmentally friendly and 100% cruelty free. Easier to put your shirt and shoes on? Be Still My Copper Heart

Los Angeles fashion, style, shopping and culture

Jewelry designer Lydia Marcos brings us back to junior high crushes.

What happens when you take 90′s iconic rock-n-roll woods, inlaid in chunky metals, and femme fatale it up in a women’s collection of cuffs, rings, pendants and super-sized statement necklaces?

By our estimation, you get the next Hollywood stylist’s obsession, courtesy jewelry designer Lydia Marcos. Think 70′s British Vogue beach girl meets 80′s Chanel power pearls in overdrive.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work with me? I swear I didn’t even ask for this A-mazing testimonial from best selling author Jen Sincero but I am beaming big time!

I certainly don’t have a master’s but to be called a master? Yay and Yay PoshGlam!

Check out this piece Poshglam.com did on me.

I HEART Starbuck’s for choosing me for their Summer tip series in People Magazine.

So Whatcha Whatcha Gonna Do?

Have you ever wondered WHO is THIS Barbra Horowitz and WHAT is all this fashion chatter coming through my email? Like the Black Eyed Peas sing- Im a B, Im a B– a personal/celebrity stylist, the author of Closet Control(Sterling Press) and on air personality for my popular you tube channel-What Would Barbra Do?

For those who want to read the silliness I spew…I ask you? So Whatcha Whatcha Gonna DO? Earth day turns the big 4-0 today…I had no idea ED and I were so close in age however I do remember going to Earth Day concerts in Golden Gate Park in San Fran back in the 90′s. Who can tell me who headlined cuz I haven’t a clue….

I was unconsciously conscious for recycling all of my clothing in those days.

Yep simply being selfish and clever enough to figure out how to get my fashion fix. Recycling your clothing was just stupid smart for me..

When I became a published author of the book/dvd Closet Control in 2007 I coined the term, Eco-Selfish. What does that mean? Think street style savvy. Want something new? Sell something old? uh duh?

That’s Eco-Selfish which now happens to be good for you-good for your pocketbook and good for the planet.

In Fashion One Day You Are In, The Next Day You Are Out.

One day you are in and the next day you are out. What is this high school? Pretty Photo Credit from impawards.commuch.

The sociological pressures of “fitting in” today as an adult can certainly feel reminiscent of how you felt growing up. Hardddddd huh?

Who doesn’t have that popular pretty girl/guy from high school wedged at the forefront of their minds? Wanna hear about mine?

Kim Riskas a junior was my fashion ’it’ girl. One day Kim wore this chambray western shirt with a square plaquard overlay.”Too cool for school” dark pleated cigarette jeans paired with toffee cowboy boots topping it all off a   monogrammed navy Gucci doctor bag. I remember this outfit like it was yesterday.

Kim would roll up to school in her Black El Dorado often walking in late to 1st period French.

Kim sat in front of me one row over, I would drift off from Ms. Whitman’ Parlez-vous wondering, could I ever be as cool as Kim? All these years later I know now that what I was really after was Kim’s confidence and that navy monogrammed Gucci doctor bag, I still want it.

What happens when life happens? What are you wearing?

Have you ever had one of those days where you wake up thinking “It’s going to be a great day?” BUT all of a sudden your dog has to be rushed to the vet, your gas tank is on empty and OH YIPPEE the parking meter you parked in is broken. Don’t some days feel like the “most dramatic rose ceremony EVER?”

I’m fairly certain, what you will wear today never made it on your TO DO list. As your fashion fairy godmother what you are going to wear needs to be at the very top of that list. But what if you are from the “I HAVE TOO MUCH TO DO” camp or how about the ‘IS WHAT IT IS camp or my personal favorite “IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT I WEAR” camp. Well, I want to share something with you? It always MATTERS how you show up to your own life and here’s why.

I want you to consider that getting dressed WELL is just as IMPORTANT as what you KNOW. In fact an appealing appearance is the bow on the gift of your own expertise and knowledge. People like shiny, pretty people.

Let’s talk about who you are in your life.

What do Audrey, Jackie, JLo and Michelle Obama have in common?

THEY ARE ALL DEEPLY CONNECTED TO THEIR PERSONAL STYLE.

J LoDID JLo start out with style? Not so much. But Jenny has learned how to dress her most famous curves . In doing so, Jennifer Lopez has carved out a signature style recognizable to her brand.

First Lady Michelle Obama has been one to watch. Bucking big designers and instead choosing independent designers and uber affordable, accessible American brand J. Crew. Stay tuned on Michelle as she cleverly crafts the perfect unison of hi-lo dressing.

Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O, these 2 legendary style icons were blessed with the perfect physical forms. Audrey’s Holly go lightly and Jackie O’s oversized sunglasses are part of our American style archives. Both of these women’s influences will live on for generations.

Once all 4 of these women crafted their signature style, compliments flowed on a regular basis were the norm – not out of the ordinary at all!

Compliments create confidence! Are you ready to find out what your own personal style meter says about you?

It’s time for a (You) break. Answer the following questions, results are right below.

I RECEIVE COMPLIMENTS A FEW TIMES A DAY.

Congratulations! You’re totally in control of your image. World domination of your hopes and dreams are on their way or have already arrived.

I GET COMPLIMENTED ON WHAT I’M WEARING A FEW TIMES A WEEK.

Some days you nail an outfit and your compliment is your reward. BUT some days all you can muster is getting out the front door. Work on your consistency! Once you raise your fashion bar, you MUST stay there. You and your empire are on their way.

I GET COMPLIMENTED ON MY OUTFIT ONCE A MONTH.

You aren’t sure what to wear. Every now and again you receive a compliment on a  particular outfit. You continue to wear the same outfit OVER and OVER again. Sounds like you need a style update. The street is your runway. Get out there and work it besides JUST working. Consider your appearance in your grand master plan – it will manifest the man you want to meet, the job you want or the raise you deserve.

I HARDLY EVER GET COMPLIMENTED ON MY CLOTHING.

You’re struggling with internal demons – age, lack of finances, weight? GREAT news! You can only go UP from here. You can learn how to get dressed around your particular issue and really begin to LOVE YOU.

Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.
-Wayne Dyer

COMPLIMENT? WHAT’S THAT?

Congratulations! Your family focused on other skill sets to embed you with. You don’t think fashion matters and it doesn’t define you.  (you’re reading this because?)

You’re absolutely RIGHT fashion doesn’t matter in the grand order of life. But your appearance and how you carry yourself does create a smoother entry vs. never being noticed at all. A strong connected style is mandatory in today’s MY FACE culture. You created the back end of who you are, now create your branding.

Find out anything you weren’t already aware of or not surprised at all?
Feel free to email me what came up for you.

If you haven’t opted out, you know I really am here to help build your confidence through  your appearance. I have a special gift for you at the end of this ezine.
Please continue reading if you’re interested, If not, GET BACK TO WORK WOULD YA!

ARE YOU READY TO BE COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY?

Can you relate to any of the following statements? If so, can you relate to more than one? There is no right or wrong answer.

  1. I don’t have a style other than to cover my body the best I can.
  2. I’ve struggled all my life with weight. I’m losing right now.
  3. I hardly ever feel cute.
  4. I’d love to get in touch with a “look” I can use no matter what.
  5. I hardly ever feel cute.
  6. I’m always uncomfortable at events because I think I look like an old lady.
  7. How I feel about my appearance really impacts my confidence and willingness to network.

HOW DID YOU DO?

I could relate to one statement.
I could relate to 2 or more statements.
I could relate to 4 or more statements.
I could relate to EVERY statement.

Remember I mentioned that you would be blown away. This is written by one woman. I did not touch one word of this paragraph and simply broke it up into  singular statements. I was BLOWN away by how many seperate feelings she had regarding her relationship to getting dressed. Isn’t that way too much to carry around?

If you can relate to even one of these statements you’re not alone and guess what it’s NOT YOUR FAULT. Negative self-talk around your appearance allows no room for your positive self love to break through. How could it?

Write me the conversation that you have with your self and what you feel about getting dressed. I will help you reframe your mirror.

For each and everyone of you that do this exercise I will give you a FREE 30 min. virtual styling session. $125 value.  (New clients only.)

If you’re already a client, I would love to hear how your relationship has changed since we first met. I will give you the first hour FREE towards your next session.

P.S. I’m having my own makeover. I am currently shifting a majority of my business online. As many of you in the service industry know, one on one service is not scaleable. The exciting news is that more of you will be able to work with me at more affordable prices alongside other men/women experiencing the same desire to get more from getting dressed.

5. LEGGO MY LEGGINGS

5pocket environmentally conscious legging
by The Batallion

Has anyone told you that this season’s all about the legging? Oh not the black matte cotton one’s you’ve been wearing to work out in. Not even all those black matte Hue’s you’ve been working under dresses for the past few season’s.

Nope, this season’s legging is the canvas to your paintbrush. Meaning – Essential Must Have! Ditch your skinny denim in boot’s (unless you’re caught in the rain of course:) Work the legging instead.

Come try on The Batallion’s 5 pocket legging in color of the moment camel.

Style TipWhy pockets on leggings you’re thinking? Pockets help your booty create curves and/or deflect too much derriere. Just like your favorite pair of denim, except the legging is leaner against your body, no matter how much you love/hate your thighs.

Double Style TipThe trick to leggings is all in the layering and proportions. Try a longer blouse/shorter sweater combo. OR try a scoop neck tee with a longer coat and scarf to tie it all together.
